Making cleaned files unrecoverable
If you want to make sure that files can never be recovered, you can specify that they get overwritten with random characters in a “shredding” process. You can have files shredded during a normal cleanup or you can select individual files for shredding from the Windows Explorer context menu.
When using this feature, make sure you want to permanently remove items. You cannot recover them from the Recycle Bin or from using an Undelete or Unerase program.
To shred files during a cleanup process:
1.
In the Icon panel, click Cleanup.
The Cleanup panel opens.
2.
Select Make cleaned files unrecoverable, so that a checkmark appears in the box.
During cleanup, the Webroot software deletes the files and overwrites them with random characters.
To shred a single file or folder:
1.
Open Windows Explorer.
2.
Right-click on the desired file or folder.
3.
Select Cleanup (Make Files Unrecoverable).
4.
In the pop-up window, click Yes.
The Webroot software deletes the file or folder and overwrites it once with random characters.
